Raku Pottery

Ordering Information

Raku is a very old Japanese process (600 AD or before) that requires the pottery to be pulled red hot from a kiln and placed in a combustible material and then quickly cooled. A wide range of color, brilliance, and intensity is possible and also a crazing or crackling tends to form that makes raku very distinctive.

These are the pieces I have on hand (mostly). Tiles are 5 1/2" to 6" square or about 4" square. I have "birdbaths", knobs, buttons, and decorative odds and ends. I can email you closeups in photo attachments. Just ask!

The desired color on this glaze is metallic copper as I've achieved in the framed piece but the colors run from all shades of brown, green and turquoise to some metallic blues and silvers. The "crackling" adds distinctiveness. The buttons especially turned out silvery. I still have some knobs but have been selling them quite well actually. The raku pendants on organic green and metallic purple yarn are quite lovely. If you want to see a close-up on pendants, go to Accessories and find them in the $20 items.
