Colorful Fan

12" x 12"

It's been a whole year since I put a brush or palette knife to raw silk and did a painting. At first I just didn't know what subjects I wanted to paint any more and then I didn't know what brushes to use, so I took some time to decide. I am starting 2011 with a series of Hobblebush plants of the Viburnum family, native to unspoiled places in NH. I love the big heart-shaped leaves that can be any color of the spectrum in fall with interesting coloring in geometric shapes and on this one bold veining. I started out with a painbrush on this one and lots of water but ended up using a toothbrush for the first time to add bold acrylic color. The big leaves are full of texture and catch the light just beautifully, so I hope you enjoy my passionate portrayal of my favorite leaves.
